As far as getting an eye exam in Atlanta there are a couple of things to consider. Some more important than the others and I will discuss those as well. As you read I want you to remember that there are always circumstances where things may not follow my recommendations. USE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENT. These are some guidelines that I go by and so I am passing them along to you. Here are the three main factors that I will discuss. I may add another blog later to discuss this further.
1) The Doctor
2) The Location
3) The Price
First we will discuss what I believe to be the most important issue, the doc! If you do not receive a quality eye exam then your vision will suffer. How can you tell if you have had a quality vision checkup? Well, do some background searching. There are many optometrists and opthamologist that can perform eye exams, but you want to know several things about them first. How long has he/she been practicing? If they are a recent graduate this does not mean you not receive the best service it only means that you need more info. For instance, which doctor have they been practicing under? How often do they attend seminars to find out the latest information and vision examinations? It may be best to see an eye doctor who has been practicing for several years (please use your own judgement).
The next point would be are you seeing a optometrist or an opthamologist? Well, in my personal opinion I would first ask myself if I were getting a routine checkup, am I interested in getting glasses/contacts, or am I in need of some type of eye surgery? If you are looking for a routine exam or if you want to fill a prescription for contacts or glasses then I would recommend an optometrist. Why? Because an optometrist's focus and speciality is on these areas. They spend more time each day filling prescriptions and doing routine checkups than most opthamologist. This is because an Some may be able/willing to screen you for medical concerns. If you have medical concerns then I would go see an opthamologist who specializes in such an area. You may need to contact an optometry practice in order to do so.
The next important factor is the practice location. Of course I know everyone likes to drive to the closest optical store, but before you do check out the companies website. Check out the companies reviews on google, it may be worth it to drive an extra mile or two.
The third factor would be the price. Now I know everyone, including me, is trying to save a buck whenever they can. You may save a dollar or two doing the Chain store eye exam thing (not saying they have bad doctors) but it may be worth it to check out a privately owned shop where you can get the extra attention from the eye doctor. It's the little efforts that pay off in the long run. Going cheap on a new sofa... that's me! Going cheap on my eye exam... I don't think so! If you do not care about the quality of your vision then go ahead and save a buck! I love my eyes!
This is going to be the end of this article, when I get some more time I would love to write more.
